French Riviera
Are you feeling Glamorous?
Then why not celebrate your wedding in style in the French Riviera, one of the most impressive regions in France. Walk along the shimmering coastline of the illustrious Côte d’Azur. This region has become extremely popular with the rich and famous, from movie stars to famous French artists such as, Van Gogh, Matisse, Renoir and Picasso. Picture yourself in a private French Villa, or at a Luxurious castle perched on the side of a sandstone cliff looking out to the alluring azure blue sea of the Mediterranean sipping a cool glass of bubbling Champagne arm in arm with your new husband with a warm breeze blowing through your hair.
The French Riviera is home to some of the most famous resorts in France including St Tropez, Cannes, Nice and Monte Carlo but you will need your money as this is also one of the most expensive regions in France. Wherever you choose you will be guaranteed picturesque coastal views, fabulous warm and sunny weather and mouth-watering cuisine.
The Languedoc-Roussillon stretches along the Mediterranean coastline, from the mouth of the Rhone to foothills of the Pyrenees on the Spanish border. The flat more spacious beaches and warm lagoons form a perfect sunbelt accommodating millions of holiday makers every year. While this sun blessed land produces half of Frances table wine, the seasons first fruits of peaches and cherries in abundance.
Its clean, golden sandy beaches are perfect for relaxing, with resorts ranging from traditional fishing villages to new purpose built resorts. Inland is quieter with acres of orchards and peaceful vineyards blending into the rugged mountains encasing the region.
The Languedoc and Roussillon offers more than just a summer holiday destination, it’s full of history and culture. Languedoc was once independent which spoke Occitan and still cherishes its separate identity. Roussillon was a Spanish possession until the treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659, with evidence of a Catalan heritage and Spanish influence.
Some of Frances greatest roman legacies can be seen at Nimes like the great amphitheatre and the magnificent aqueduct at the Pont du Gard. The great craggy Cathar Castles and the beautifully restored medieval cite of Carcassonne bear witness to the bloody battles of the middle ages.
Getting here
Montpellier’s international airport serves the region, with smaller airports at Perpignan, Carcassonne and Nimes. The TGV stops in Montpellier and a good rail network connects the main towns. The two main motorways are the A61 giving access from the west and the A9 following the coast. The smaller roads are well maintained even in the mountains and offer a scenic way to view the region.
